Last Friday, December 13, 2013, our Religious Family here in the Philippines concluded this academic year’s two-day Thomistic Studies. These are the days of each year which are dedicated for the study of a certain theme following the thoughts of St. Thomas Aquinas. This year is dedicated to ‘The Man’, running with the theme ‘Only in the mystery of Incarnation does the mystery of man takes on light’.
The IVE priests, major seminarians, religious of the Servants of the Lord and the Virgin of Matará and the novices were in-charged of presenting the papers. The first part was devoted to a historical approach to the theme. The thoughts of different philosophers, starting from Plato, passing through St. Augustine until the modern times were studied and analyzed. The current theme addresses the doctrine of St. Thomas Aquinas regarding man and the modern crisis which tends to divinize man and negate God. This, of course have an impact with the development of philosophy and theology.profound with the use of the teachings of the Angelic Doctor, St. Thomas Aquinas; and then we saw its Theological applications concluding with a presentation on Gaudium et Spes teachings on the relation of man with God.
St. Thomas Aquinas is of central importance in our Institute. St. Thomas invites all men to tirelessly seek the truth, because only by investigating with perseverance, one arrives to an understanding of reality and of Him who is its Author. Various popes and councils have praised the perennial value of the works of the Angelic Doctor.
We thank God for this opportunity to conduct this year’s Thomistic Studies. We pray that it may increase our enthusiasm in the search of truth, giving more vitality to our work of Evangelization of Cultures.
