Feast of the Patrons at the Parish of Our Lady of Guadalupe – Peru

In order that the faithful may participate in their devotion to Our Lady in the best way possible, we had a feast in honor of Our Lady of Guadalupe this past Sunday on the 10th of December. The Mass was celebrated at 5:30pm by Fr. Esteban Cantisani, Provincial Superior of the IVE in Peru, and was concelebrated by Fr. Ricardo Maldonado and other priests of the IVE. Afterwards, a reenactment on the apparitions of the Virgin performed by a group of persevering children. Later, there was a procession with the images of Our Lady and St. Juan Diego, prepared by the citizens of Melgariana, Begonias, and Pedro Diez Canseco. It is noteworthy that each year the devotion to the Our Lady grows as more and more of the faithful participate in the main feast of our parish.

Evening Prayer in Honor of Our Mother the Virgin of Guadalupe.

Last Saturday, December 9th, evening prayer was celebrated in honor of our patroness. This day coincided with the feast of St. Juan Diego. Many parishioners and religious participated in the Mass in which Ms. Dana, who was preparing herself for the past two years in Catechism, was confirmed. After the Mass, there was traditional bingo, songs sung by the sisters, the parents, and the youth. There was also a dance by the youth of the parish and a tribute done by the mariachis who sang the Mananitas in honor of Our Lady of Guadalupe. Truly, we give thanks to our Mother for the great joy that night.

Gaudete Sunday in Egypt

On December 17th, by the grace of God, we were able to celebrate the Third Sunday of Advent, traditionally called Gaudete Sunday. The name of this Sunday is taken from the entrance antiphon of the Mass, which is normally not prayed because the Eucharistic celebration begins with an entrance hymn. The antiphon prays: “Rejoice in the Lord always, I say it again, rejoice. The Lord is near.” These are the words of the Apostle St. Paul to the Christians of Philippi.
